On the banks of the Paterson River, in the Hunter Valley just south of Port Stephens, Solar Hunter Valley – LuvSolar recent installed a 20kW solar system and 40.5kWh of energy storage on the historic Tressingfield estate.
The owners had approached LuvSolar about a solar and battery solution to provide energy independence after a series of blackouts had left the property without power.
LuvSolar first analysed the electricity usage at the property. The daily average usage of 65kWh with 45kWh outside of solar production hours meant that a lot of energy was being used most nights.
The final design by LuvSolar used all of the roof space suitable for installation of 45 Trina Vertex 450W panels. This solar array provides an average of 80kWh of energy each day. The design also included 3 x Tesla Powerwall 3 Batteries, which store up to 40.5kWh of energy and can provide 30kW of continuous power output.
Solar and battery installation and commissioning
In just two days Solar Hunter Valley – LuvSolar was able to a install a solar and battery system that meets all client requirements, and will fully charge on any day of the year.
The batteries allow the owners to collect free solar energy during the day to power their house at night. This means very little power is taken from the grid, and almost no energy bills for the owners.
The system also automatically provides backup power in case there is a blackout, making sure that the lights, power, and communications are always on for the owners, no matter what happens on the grid.
The 30kW power rating of the combined Tesla batteries also mean that the system is easily capable of independently running high power appliances such as kettles, heaters, and clothes dryers. So when bad weather takes out the power grid, this home is still warm and comfortable.
